By definition, the phrase “reinventing the wheel” (plural, in this case) implies recreating and refining something that is already well-established or commonly accepted. The title of this blog is no different. What I am hoping and trying to do is to literally “reinvent” the way fans and teams look at racing and scheme design.
Philosophically, this blog is intended to share my own personal perspective from working in this sport. I do have a lot of opinions about what happens every Sunday, but I try not to bring those into play unless I feel I absolutely need to say it. I do have favorite drivers that I root for (I don’t think I’m any different from anyone else working in this sport – at least I don’t THINK I am – after all, we’ve got to be fans to want to be involved in racing) but I keep it all in perspective.
Personally, this blog is like a little journal of sorts for me. I’ve only been in the sport for two years (one if you only count how long I’ve done work that’s actually gotten on the track) and I want to have a complete record of all the major milestones and happenings up to this point. I hope at some point I’ll have an opportunity to look back on what has been accomplished and be able to see what moments, events, or happenings altered the course of my company and my own personal life. They say life is a journey – well, these posts I make are going to be portraits and snapshots of every important moment along the way as I try to bring C2C to the forefront.
Professionally, I want people to be able to view this blog and gain insight and perspective on not just me, but every graphic artist who has sat down on the computer and designed a race car. Obviously my experience is different from many others, but the common thread is we all have a sense of pride in what we do. I think that a lot of people who do what I do feel an intense connection with their work, and that moment when a car bearing their work hits the race track, that’s when we feel the most complete.
So let me say thanks to you, the reader, as I try to live the dream of working in NASCAR. I hope I’m able to offer a glimpse into an aspect of racing that millions of people see every weekend, but know only a little bit about.
